Description
Ornithology was issued in 1912 and 1913. Two were issued in 1912 and 4 were issued in 1913. In 1914 the merit badge title was changed to Bird Study. Bird Study would continue to be issued with a slightly different design from 1914 on. Design elements of the bird are different on the Ornithology badge than any of the Bird Study badges. You will also note the characteristic counter clockwise ring on the merit badge that is identified as coming from the first manufacturer of merit badges. I will mention that we can not know how many of these merit badges were made by the manufacturer. No manufacturer would go through the design and production process and only make 1 or 2 patches. They probably made additional patches that were held and issued later for subsequent orders. Ornithology is the least issued title among all teen merit badges with only 6 issued under that title while 10 Invention were issued. It is certainly a patch with a neat story. Please refer to the scan(s)/picture(s) for the condition of all items. I list all items as "used" in the item condition.
