Description
Gold bullion bars like this two gram piece from the Scottsdale Mint are flat bars struck using 24 karat pure [.9999 fine] gold. They range in size from 1/4th grain to a kilo or more. Their popularity stems from the fact that unlike legal tender coinage, fractional gold pieces when sold are worth close to their "melt value," which depends on the day's gold "spot price.” What once was called the London Gold Fixing [or “London Fix”], setting the gold price is now in the hands of international bankers on the London Bullion Metals Association, or LBMA. The gold price setting is done twice a day, once at 10:30 AM and again at 3:00 PM. This spot price is used as a benchmark for transactions on the various Gold Exchanges.
T
he Scottsdale Mint is located in Scottsdale [a suburb of Phoenix], Arizona. The minting and mining company works with foreign governments to manufacture their legal tender coins. The mint strikes circulating coins on behalf of reserve banks of Congo, Chad and Fiji, among others.
T
he Scottsdale Mint devised a tamper evident capsule, the Certi-Lock®, to secure their bars. The new Certi-Lock® technology is an interactive bullion verification system that guarantees the authenticity of Scottsdale Mint bars.
S
cottsdale Mint gold bars are encased in special assay cards with tamper-evident holographic features. This assay card incorporates an embedded synthetic DNA, and the encrypted bar code can be verified by using the Certi-Lock® phone app. Clients can scan the barcode by using the app in order to get access to the pictures of their bar taken at the time when it had been sealed, giving a chance to visually match the actual bar in their hands. This feature makes these bars highly appealing as they give customers confidence that the product is authentic. This Scottsdale two gram gold bar is secured in a cellophane sleeve attached to a Golden Life Card. The originally designed card has photos of the universe taken by the Hubble Telescope. A label carries information about the gold piece, what we call a "mini-bio." This is a feature not offered by other dealers. A colorful envelope is also included for easy storage or gifting to a loved one. The Scottsdale Mint offers perhaps the most colorful assay card to hold its gold of any mint anywhere, and the strike on these bars is sharp and dramatic. The lion design is a hologram with stunning color changes when catching light. The bar is raised higher from the assay card than most one gram pieces, creating a grand impression, much like the lion. [NOTE: The first two pictures are Stock Photos, but I Guarantee that the Scottsdale two gram bar you receive as a buyer matches in quality the one photographed.]
