    Type H (1972 - 2002)   PLASTIC BACK
This type is fully embroidered with a plasticized back to improve durability when sewn on a sash. There is evidence that some councils recommended using a hot iron on the back of the sash to melt the plastic backing that served as an adhesive to attach the merit badge to the sash. However, it is important to emphasize that this was not the intended purpose of the plastic backing. This type also exist with both a green and silver border. The silver border denotes it was required for the Eagle Rank. Both Type G and Type H came with outside diameter variations, probably do two different manufacturers or as a result of reordering. These variations are anywhere from 1 and 3/8 inches to nearly 1 and 5/8 inches. Variations in plastic color also exist in Type H. It appears blue plastic was used for sometime in the beginning followed later by clear plastic. The exact time line is unknown.
