    Description

Buyers must read entire listing and ask questions before buying.
I have for your consideration one of the most significant American Breweriana Collectibles you will ever have the chance to buy. A Sterling Silver tankard made by the prestigious UK London high end department store Asprey for the Bond Corporation takeover of  G. Heileman Brewing Company in 1988. At the time G Heilman Brewing was among the top 5 brewers. The acquisition by the Bond Corporation not only bankrupt Bond, but also the Lenders who got involved and put an end to the long history of the G Heilman Brewing Company Family owned business. It's a truly remarkable piece of brewing history and every major player is engraved on the mug.
The Tankard weighs 470 grams, the height is 5 inches with bottom width 5 1/8, top width 3 5/8 and the liquid capacity is 1 Imperial Pint. But I'm not selling a piece of scrap silver or just a Sterling Tankard, I'm selling a really nice piece of brewing history and there's only one like it out there. Below is some of the History of the G. Heileman Brewing Company taken from Wikipedia.
    The
    G. Heileman Brewing Company
of La Crosse, Wisconsin, United States, was a brewery firm that operated from 1858 to 1996. It was ultimately acquired by Stroh's, and its independent existence ceased. From 1872 until its acquisition, the brewery bore the family name of its co-founder and brewer Gottlieb Heileman.
In 1858, Gottlieb Heileman, an immigrant from Wurttemberg, joined in a business venture with John Gund, an immigrant from Baden. Together, the pair of German expatriates founded The City Brewery in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 1858. The City Brewery produced beer at a modest rate, sticking to just local and regional production. The beer produced at the City Brewery primarily went to local hotels and bars. Because hotels and bars were their primary target, Heileman and Gund collaborated on the International Hotel, formerly the Augusta Hotel, which the pair bought and rebuilt after a fire in 1862.
The hotel provided them additional income. In 1872, however, the pair had a falling out due to several factors, foremost among them being Gund's desire to expand the brewery and Heileman's desire to stay local. Following the dissolution of the partnership, Gund bought Heileman's shares of the International Hotel and Heileman bought Gund's shares of the City Brewery. Gund went on to found the Gund Brewing Company whereas Heileman renamed the City Brewery the G. Heileman's City Brewery.
There's a lot more great history including the collapse from the acquisition this mug represents. I'd recommend reading it on Wikipedia. You won't find many other, if any, pieces of Breweriana with the kind of history this piece represents. If you're curious it's a heavy mug at 470 grams of Sterling Silver but the real value is the history and story it tells. This is not a scrap silver piece by any means. Go look at what sterling pieces made by Asprey cost and imagine what the added engraving cost when this piece was made? I've treasured this piece since I acquired it but we're down sizing and it's time to find it a new home. Everyone who's ever looked at it wants to know the story behind it. It's a great conversation piece.
