    Description

    Up for sale here is a Ludwig Vistalite Tivoli power supply and wiring harness recreation. The history behind this item is that about 10 years ago I needed a power supply and wiring harness for my kit, and I couldn’t find anything original available, so I decided to build one. I’ve worked in the electronics field for 25 years, and figured it couldn’t be that hard. What I didn’t understand at the time was how difficult it would be to source all the original components. I don’t even want to say how many hours of research I’ve put in just to get to this point. Now that I have found myself with some extra time on my hands…I decided to build another one. I sold my kit a few years back, so I built a test fixture that completely models the kit. This was done to perform quality checks and to test everything at full load.
    Externally…I have tried to build the unit as close to original as possible using all original NOS Cinch-Jones plugs and sockets (with the wrinkle-finish metal housings). For the enclosure…I upgraded a bit. Ludwig used 1/32” aluminum “hobby” boxes, I used an industrial 16-gauge (1/16”) steel box in the correct size (8” x 6” x 4”). I even found the original aluminum Ludwig logo labels with the “registered” trademark. The parts are out there if you look hard enough, but they’re not cheap! I have also added the proper cooling air flow ducts on the sides of the unit.
    Internally…this is where things got interesting. The original units had a tendency to overheat (especially the early single plug design), due to the fact that Ludwig used transformers at their current limit. These Tivoli kits will pull over 3 amps on the low voltage side with all the drums connected. The original units used a simple AC transformer (2), so whatever voltage fluctuations and surges happened on the input voltage, were transferred to the low voltage side. Any time the dryer, air conditioning, or other 240-volt load kicks on can create this issue. That’s why I decide to upgrade the unit and install an industrial Lambda regulated DC power supply that can push 5.7 amps at 40 degrees Celsius (104º F). You will never need anywhere close to that, but it gives you a lot of room on the top end. Also…no matter what happens on the input voltage, the output stays constant.
    All wiring connections have been professionally soldered and shrink wrapped, and this unit has been tested at full load for two hours after being assembled.
    NOTE:
    These components have been designed and built based off of Ludwig’s original design. Ensure that no modifications have been done to your kit before connecting.

    All my items will be double-wrapped in large bubble wrap, then shrink-wrapped, and then boxed with either peanuts, and or more bubble wrap. This is both time consuming and expensive. I have sold hundreds of items, and have never had one damaged in shipping. It may cost a little more, but it’s better than receiving a damaged item and then having me blame it on the carrier. Believe me…I have had this happen to me, and it’s a no-win situation.
