This card was nominated for inclusion in the list by the UK distributors RKMS, who are based in Notts.... Unlike some other distributors, these people actually run a studio, so I expect they have fully tried & tested this thing & found it A-OK.....yup, they actually use it in their production studio.
Based around a 24bit DSP, the ZA2 features full-duplex operation and SPDIF coax, SPDIF fibre-optic and AES/EBU XLR digital connections, plus an 85dB analogue out for monitoring......So you're well covered for connections..... If yo have a DAT already, this card can input audio into your PC by sending the audio to your DAT, setting it to monitor, then using the ADA's on the DAT to get the data down the pipe.....You can then use the Analog outs as a normal soundcard for audio out whilst monitoring your work.....Then it's back to DAT again via digital....excellent facility to include that stereo analog out !!
The ZA2 is full-duplex...so you can monitor & record simultaeneously....and apparently it also comes with a backup software that allows you to archive your HD to standard DAT....RKMS will give tech-support as well.
There's not alot else I can say, having not tried it....It's a bit more pricey than some of the cheaper S/PDIF cards...but then you also get the high quality analog monitoring outs...which is an excellent bonus, and if you think about it, is worth a few hundred notes alone.....then you've got all the available Digital options you could need...and quality connectors by the look of it....
