Vairamuthu’s veiled dig at singer amid #MeToo row: Should see a psychiatrist

National award-winning lyricist Vairamuthu on Friday took a veiled dig at singer Suchitra after she alleged that he made indecent phone calls to singers. In a post on X, Vairamuthu said “some people were suffering from Messianic Delusional Disorder”.
“Those who have faced loss of life, weak heart, unaccomplished wishes, depression leading to loss of mind will throw harsh words at those they loved one-sided, will speak incoherently. Will act crazy sometimes and smart sometimes. Will consider them as God. This disease is called ‘Messianic Delusional Disorder”, Vairamuthu said in his post.
“They should not be punished, they should be shown kindness and healed through sympathy. They should see a psychiatrist, take medics and approach a doctor,” he added.
Singer Suchitra, in an interview on a YouTube channel, stated that Vairamuthu made calls to singers and said there was “lust in their voice”.
“I will tell you his dialogues also, ‘There is a lust in your voice. I became crazy hearing your voice. I am falling in love with your voice’. There is no singer who has not got this phone call,” Suchitra said in an interview on a YouTube channel.
“I also got this phone. After this phone call, he invited me home, saying that he wanted to give me a gift. I didn’t go alone but took my grandmother. He asked why I had brought her along. I said that I don’t go anywhere alone. My grandmother told him to be more responsible, and take care of these young girls like a father. Vairamuthu was sweating seeing my grandmother talk. Then she asked him about the gift. He went to the rear of his house and brought two shampoo bottles. He gave me Pantene shampoo and conditioner,” stated Suchitra.
Chimayi also took to X and said that the ‘poet’ should see a mental health professional about his predatory behaviour.
“If there is one person who needs to speak to a Mental Health professional on his predatory behaviour, it is the poet. But molester saar being bolstered by his family, filmy, politician and feminist(!) Buddies will hand out a mental health diagnosis on a public platform”, Chinmayi said. “Looks like he decided not to call anyone for ‘Compromise pechu vaarthai’ madyastam this time”.
Vairamuthu’s attack came a week after Chinmayi accused him of sexual harassment, pointing out that almost 20 women have accused him of misconduct. She also likened him to Harvey Weinstein.
“Anywhere else this Tamilian Harvey Weinstein would be investigated at the very least. Gangrape cases have evidence fudged and dont get justice in our country, so wishing for justice is too much in India. Almost 20 women have named Vairamuthu, yet the shamelessness to platform him requires a special wiring,” Chinmayi had posted on X.
Chinmayi is fighting her own sexual harassment case against Vairamuthu. The singer had made allegations against the lyricist during the MeToo movement in India in 2018.
Vairamuthu, during his visit to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) office in Chennai recently, said it was very important that panels such as Hema Committee be created across the country.
His post comes after singer Suchitra, alleged that had made indecent phone calls to singers.
The Hema Committee report has brought to light numerous incidents of sexual assault involving female actors within the Malayalam film industry. It highlighted a troubling pattern of sexual harassment that women face in the film industry. Additionally, the report points to a “power group” of 10–15 men who are said to be at the helm of the industry, effectively controlling its operations and dynamics.
